It is probably true that hypnosis and hypnotherapy are surrounded by more myths and misconceptions than any other form of therapy or psychological practice. These misconceptions often draw on long-distant history and confusion and have no foundation in fact. To assist you get a clear idea, I have outlined some of the most common questions I am asked in practice.

What is hypnosis?

Hypnotherapy is psychotherapy based on the ancient art of hypnosis, which is constantly refined and updated. It is based around the relationship between our conscious and unconscious minds and their connection with the quality of life. In a nutshell, hypnotherapy helps access the unlimited healing potential of the human mind/body to affect positive in behaviour and ways of thinking.

Is hypnosis safe?

Hypnotherapy is 100% safe in every way. It is also extremely beneficial for the body and mind is being in a deep relaxed state improves both body and mind function and health.

Will I ‘cluck like a chicken’?

Comedy stage hypnosis has very little to do with clinical hypnotherapy and has been shown to foster misconceptions which can prevent people from benefiting from treatment. Take what you see on television with a generous pinch of salt. However, if your goal is to cluck like a chicken I would need to refer you to other professionals!

Can I be hypnotised?

Everyone can, in principle, be hypnotised. It has been shown to help if you relax, think positively, and imagine the things being suggested.

What does hypnosis feel like?

Hypnosis is a natural state that we enter into many times a day. It is when your critical mind is silent and you become absorbed in something or simply day dream.
